Fiore reflects on her first six months at EPIC
EPIC made a significant move in September 2023 with the appointment of Teresa Fiore as the company’s VP of partnerships; a role leading our US team in which she has now clocked up her first half-year of service.
Fiore has been a notable hire for EPIC, arriving from PointsBet, where she held the role of manager of responsible gambling and corporate social responsibility, and had already built up a positive reputation within gambling circles for her work as programme manager of research and responsible gaming at the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
Six months on from her arrival with the global leaders in utilizing lived experience to minimise gambling-related harm, she shared some thoughts on how she has found the experience of working directly in the prevention space, having previously worked in both regulatory and operator-based roles.
“EPIC is made up of talented professionals who are passionate in their efforts to mitigate gambling related harms,” she explained.
“Thanks to them, they have made my first six months incredibly positive and I look forward to what the next six will bring!”
Brought in for her considerable experience in the gaming sector, EPIC wasted no time in promoting Fiore to several prominent speaking engagements, which have included international conferences, panel discussions and media appearances.
She cites a recent event as a highlight of her time with the organization thus far, explaining:
“In terms of the most memorable moments, serving as moderator at the internationally-focused SIGA Annual Summit on Female Leadership in Sport in New York last week has been a highlight.
“Being able to lead the discussion for a panel which included major players within compliance, sport integrity, and responsible gaming was an honour.
“The members of the panel spoke very openly about the different ways in which we can meet the challenges of mitigating harm across sectors, and shared the steps they’ve each taken already to protect the people within their organisations.
“I was delighted to be joined by programme facilitator Liz Thielen, who shared her personal story of gambling addiction, as well as her perspective as a behavioural health expert.
“She does a stellar job of connecting with audiences to educate on the important topic of responsible gaming and sport integrity.”
So what do Fiore’s hopes for the next six months and beyond look like? She concluded:
“Looking forward, my aspiration is that we continue to work with a diverse range of organisations and extend the reach of EPIC’s prevention services to shape a landscape which prioritises fan, bettor and athlete welfare.”
