EPIC to wrap up PGAM with lived experience webinar
Having spent the month of March highlighting how ‘Every Story Matters’ for Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM), EPIC Global Solutions are looking to bring the event to a crescendo with a special webinar focusing on the impact of lived experience in mitigating gambling-related harm.
‘Every Story Matters: EPIC’s Lived Experience Mission’ will take place online on Thursday March 28 from 3.30pm (UK) / 11.30am (ET) / 8.30am (PDT), with four members of the EPIC team taking questions from the audience on their personal experiences with problem gambling and the methods we now employ in order to try and prevent it from happening to others (click here to register).
Moderator Mike Huber will be joined by two fellow programme facilitators, Liz Thielen and Greg Weber, with an alternate perspective provided by our senior professional sports manager, Dr Meg Popovic.
Their experience will prove engaging and enlightening, with mini biographies of the panel as follows:
- Mike Huber has become a recognised voice on this subject matter via a wide range of podcast appearances – both as a guest and host – as he reflects on how his own personal relationship with gambling turned harmful.
- Liz Thielen was one of the leading female boxers in the US before injury curtailed her professional ambitions, and experienced problem gambling after turning to regular casino play following the combined blow of her injury issues and the loss of a close relative.
- Greg Weber experienced some notable wins playing in professional poker events, but the outward sense of success hid a tendency for harmful play away from the public eye, leading to him losing the considerable sums he’d won in elite tournaments.
- Dr Meg Popovic provides a different viewpoint, having witnessed the effects of gambling-related harm in others during a notable career in player welfare within professional sport, which has included five years as a director of the NHL’s iconic Toronto Maple Leafs franchise.
Webinar attendees are welcome to ask questions during the broadcast via the question submission function on the hosting platform, with the panel seeking to answer as many of the audience’s queries on problem gambling as possible during the course of the event.
All are welcome to join the broadcast, regardless of location or your level of engagement with gambling-related issues. To register, please click here in order to be sent the broadcast link on the day of the event.
