EPIC Founder marks significant milestone this is longer
Today marks a significant milestone for EPIC Risk Management’s Founder and CEO Paul Buck. It is nine years to the day since he placed his last bet.
Paul founded EPIC Risk Management in 2013, after overcoming his own decade-long pathological gambling disorder and its devastating effects.
Previously a successful financial services professional, Paul is now regarded globally as a leading expert in gambling harm prevention and uses his experience and knowledge to lead EPIC in preventing harm in the highest risk sectors
Paul Buck: “On the 24th November 2011 (9 years ago today) I placed my final bet – £2,400 on a horse ridden by Ruby Walsh. It hit the first fence hard and pulled up..
“In the decade previously I had transacted £4.8m across 93 separate betting accounts losing a total of £1.3m of which £434,000 I had stolen from the bank I worked for.
“The immediate aftermath saw a too close to call suicide attempt and a prison sentence, but then in the last 7 years the building of a really special business in EPIC Risk Management
“I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those who stood by me, believed in me and continue to support EPIC’s work in now 20 different countries. Very proud that the team has risen to 24 and half of those have lived experience of gambling disorder. We were the first to put lived experience at the heart of everything.
“The next 12 months is going to the biggest yet, with a new global sports programme, sector leading fully accredited and independently evaluated operator training and the formation of the EPIC Restart Foundation, and I will never forget the reason we do what we do … to reduce #gambling related harm and save lives.”
