EPIC apply UKGC changes to Interactions Masterclass ahead of schedule

EPIC Risk Management’s fully-accredited Interactions Masterclass is ready to help operators to understand and act upon the UK Gambling Commission’s (UKGC) new guidelines to protect customers from risk of harm, with the new training already available over a month ahead of the changes coming into effect.

A total of 14 requirements will take effect from 12th September 2022, with EPIC having acted quickly to update its award-winning service since the changes were first unveiled in June.

These guidelines focus on identifying indicators of harm, acting to prevent further harm through interaction and ongoing evaluation of not only the gambling operator’s interactions, but also their process effectiveness.

The new requirements already tally with EPIC’s proactive commitment to prevention, with the UKGC putting a key emphasis on operators to tailor interactions to the severity of the signs of harm. The Interactions Masterclass – fully compliant with the customer Interactions 3.4.3 changes and fully accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management – has already been successful at helping Tier 1 operators to identify potential harm before it happens, and now has an additional focus on helping the operators to identify key signs of harm and vulnerabilities that increase risk levels.

EPIC’s training has gained acclaim for putting lived experience at the heart of the subject matter, delivered by industry experts who collectively understand the needs of both the consumer and the operator. The high standard of delivery in this area has just seen the company heralded as the ‘Player Protection Service Provider of the Year’ at last month’s SBC North America Awards.

Dan Spencer, director of safer gambling at EPIC Risk Management (pictured above), is pleased with the speed at which his team has been able to reflect the key changes requested by the UKGC and hopes that being on the front foot will save more people from potential gambling harm, explaining:

“I’m glad to announce that our course has been updated to the new guidance and remains fully accredited. We’ve had some amazing success delivering this course over the last 18 months, showing an average increase in confidence and ability of 20% to those who have taken the course.

“The Gambling Commission has been more specific around interactions and this course covers not just compliance, but truly having effective and confident conversations with players at an early stage. Customer interactions should be part of daily business now across the industry and we can help make those interactions the very best they can be.”
