EPIC and INTENTA to partner on gambling prevention initiatives in esports and gaming
EPIC Risk Management and INTENTA have formalised a new 12-month partnership to collaborate on global strategies for the prevention of gambling and gaming-related harm.
Esports is now the fastest growing sport in the world and there are 3.4 billion gamers worldwide – up from just over two billion in 2015. As esports and gaming continues its meteoric rise, the potential for gambling and gaming-related harm will also increase.
Both organisations are seeking to inform and empower players, management teams and esports audiences about the potential risks of problem gambling and gaming and how to avoid them.
To achieve these aims, EPIC will become a ‘Safer Gambling Education Partner’ of INTENTA, providing expertise relating to education delivery, and Singapore-based INTENTA will be a ‘Gaming and Esports Partner’ of EPIC, promoting the benefits of gaming and esports while raising awareness on safe play and mental health.
This collaboration between two globally-recognised leaders in their fields will strive to make gaming and esports a positive experience through awareness and prevention initiatives. The partnership will ensure that key messaging reaches a range of audiences – from professional players and coaches to schools and colleges, as well as parents of children who play video games where gambling-related mechanics are present.
Additionally, both organisations will share insights, expertise and lived experience of gambling and gaming-related harm to enhance the quality of their educational curricula. There will also be staff and member development opportunities, and a commitment to collaborate on potential research and business development projects.
Cam Adair, co-founder of INTENTA said:
“We are excited to partner with EPIC to help reduce gambling-related harm in gaming and esports. With the explosive growth of the gaming industry in recent years and its convergence with gambling through loot boxes, social casino games and esports betting, it’s more important than ever that players are aware of the potential risks involved.
“EPIC’s industry-leading expertise in gambling will be a great addition to safeguarding gaming and esports, and helping players make informed decisions.”
Paul Findlay, EPIC’s director of CSR, has warmly welcomed the new arrangement, explaining:
“We are delighted that EPIC and INTENTA have partnered to provide much-needed educational support across critical areas.
“The world of esports, gaming and gaming betting is growing at record speed, and with this, we see players increasingly exposed to the associated risks. Ensuring players can continue playing in a safe environment is paramount.”
