In Focus: EPIC in the Construction Industry
As part of EPIC Risk Management’s continuing growth, the gambling harm minimisation consultancy continues to work in new areas and industries. One such industry is Construction.
EPIC’s work in recent months in this space has seen them work for MPB Structures Ltd at their major sites in Manchester (Circle Square) and Battersea, London and with Costain Skanska Joint Venture (CSjv) EWC Enabling Works Contract and their client HS2 Ltd, with work aimed at raising awareness within workforces regarding the impact on mental health and suicide as a consequence of problem gambling.
It is work that EPIC Risk Management’s Director of Educational Programmes Patrick Foster believes, will continue to form EPIC’s educational work.

“One question we constantly ask organisations at EPIC Risk Management is, ‘are your employees at risk of gambling-related harm?’
“Throughout the number of industries and workplaces that we collaborate with, we have found that Construction can be one of the most stressful occupations for such a large and diverse group of people. We’ve seen that workers are at an increased risk of experiencing mental health issues such as addictions and problem gambling, and we’re seeing more and more employers recognise this risk to their employees.
“We know through our expertise and own lived experience, that the harms associated with gambling can have significant impacts on physical health and mental wellbeing, financial security, performance at work and relationships. An employer’s duty encompasses mental health and wellbeing as well as physical health, and we know first-hand how much of a threat gambling-related harm can pose to the welfare of an individual (Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974).
“What we offer is a blended approach of training, education and consultancy for all employees tailored to the needs of your company to safeguard and protect both individuals and the organisation. We use our own Lived experience stories, provide post-session support and have individual “Drop-In” and Advice Consultation sessions also available. Furthermore, staff members can have access to the EPIC App as well as further content provision and website support.
“As a globally leading independent gambling harm minimisation consultancy, EPIC raises awareness of gambling-related harm to identify and mitigate the human, financial, brand and reputational risks that problem gambling can create. EPIC uses a combination of hard-hitting, lived experience with industry research and experience to deliver market-leading education, prevention, and awareness talks. Our sessions focus on the identification of and interaction with those at risk of gambling harm. One of our primary objectives is to enhance the understanding of gambling and gaming-related harm amongst at-risk people by enabling them to make more informed choices.”
