PSAB NA: Completing the line-up with a familiar face…

Our final board member profile to complete our introductions to the new collective on the Pro Sport Advisory Board North America brings us back to someone who will be familiar to anyone who has been following the progress of the PSAB concept since 2021.

Rounding off the team in the US and Canada is Clint Hangebrauck, the managing director of enterprise risk management at the NCAA, who transfers over after being a member of the globally-facing PSAB Foundation Group for the past year.

Among other duties related to risk management, he provides leadership around the NCAA’s sports betting harm prevention efforts, including managing the relationship with EPIC Global Solutions.

Before his current role, Hangebrauck held quality control and audit-related duties at the NCAA national office. Before joining the NCAA, he served in various risk-consulting roles at a CPA firm and a Fortune 50 company.

Hangebrauck graduated from the Purdue Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. School of Business. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family and friends exploring the great outdoors.

He now becomes the final member of the team to explain why this opportunity appealed to him and how the mutual benefits will be shared between the board and the athlete development organization he serves…

What made you want to join the Pro Sport Advisory Board North America?

“With sports betting still being in its infancy in the United States, it’s important to compare notes with other industry experts to continue to develop and implement best practices for harm prevention programs.”

What are you hoping to bring to (or take from) membership of the board?

“I’m hoping to bring to the board lessons learned from the work the NCAA has been doing across its 1,100 member schools and 500,000 student-athletes.  I hope to take away ideas for further improvement.”

Why is it important that a specific North American board is being created to specifically focus on the niche wagering issues that affect this part of the world?

“It’s the time now in North America to lay an appropriate foundation to allow sports betting to exist responsibly while mitigating harm to the sports community.”

How important is gambling harm prevention to you and/or your organization?

“It’s a top priority for both myself and our organization.  Our cohort of student-athletes are at a critical juncture in their maturation process to allow them to have lifelong success, and gambling generally and sports betting specifically present a variety of risks to their success.”
