Carla the collaborator is at the heart of some EPIC projects

Every organisation needs a team member that binds the workforce together like glue, and in the form of communications manager Carla Mellor, EPIC Global Solutions have their own star who makes quality collaborations come to life.

One of the five winners at this year’s EPIC Values Awards, Carla’s day-to-day remit is to oversee internal communications for the globally-spread company, but her role goes far beyond the dissemination of key messages to staff.

Throughout a period of constant evolution and growth for EPIC in 2024, Carla has held her hand up on countless occasions to be the one who takes charge of the internal processes that need expert input and coordination, regularly going over and above to ensure that her skillset for clarity and instruction brings projects completion promptly and successfully.

There are five values that underpin EPIC’s work – Authenticity, Excellence, People, Integrity and Collaboration – and Carla was a contender in more than one category for the 2024 award event, but collaboration is definitely the word that springs to mind when thinking about how she approaches her work, supporting her team mates and enhancing everyone’s output.

As one colleague explained: “Carla has this uncanny ability to take a problem that looks stuck, sprinkles her trademark easy-going charm and calm with her knack for teamwork over it, and suddenly it’s back on track – like magic, but with loop-boards and Powerpoints.

“She’s the glue that sticks people together and has a talent for helping everyone see that collaboration isn’t just a buzzword, it’s how you actually get things done. Truly an award-winning teammate in every sense.”

She was further commended by another team member, who explained that she is ‘always looking for ways to make work easier and more collaborative’.

It’s a perception that would be quickly identified by any ‘fly on the wall’ watching her go about her work at the company’s UK headquarters, and though Carla is an outwardly modest individual who never seeks the limelight for herself, she was very grateful for the recognition she received when handed her award at the company’s December Town Hall event in Manchester.

“Collaboration is a key part of my role; the more you work with others the easier communication becomes,” she explains. “By collaborating you can leverage other people’s unique skills and perspectives to create a piece of work that reflects the diversity of our people.

“Thanks to all of my wonderful colleagues for the recognition – it’s very much appreciated.”
