Safer Gambling Week to educate through the ‘stories behind the statistics’
The UK and Europe celebrates Safer Gambling Week from 18th-24th November, offering a heightened opportunity for EPIC Global Solutions to share the ‘stories behind the statistics’ as part of the awareness campaign aimed at engendering a safer relationship with gambling for all those who engage in betting.
Promoted in the UK by the Betting and Gaming Council, and coordinated across the continent as ‘European Safer Gambling Week’ by the European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), it is the region’s biggest annual promotion of safer gambling practices; shining a greater than usual spotlight on the year-round mission that EPIC undertakes.
Supporting public-facing messaging on how to enjoy gambling without the risk of harm, key figures from within our organisation are appearing via a mixture of TV, webinar, social media and interview content to help explain their back story with gambling issues, and highlight steps or partnerships that are currently in place to ensure that others don’t repeat the same mistakes.
An undoubted highlight of the week will be our pre-announced Thursday webinar covering ‘Female gamblers: the hidden side of problem gambling?’ (registration open here to guarantee your advance access link), sitting alongside personal insight that will add a personal touch to an important message, such as:
- Video content highlighting the impact of our lived experience approach through our delivery in professional football;
- Articles and video content explaining why past experience of disordered gambling on horse racing is now helping that industry to prevent future issues;
- Former pro footballer Marc Williams appearing live on Sky Sports Racing (Tuesday morning) to explain our support for staff at racecourses, stables and support services to the UK horse racing scene;
- Offering expert insight to third party webinars, such as Mike Holinski speaking on Tuesday’s CMS Sports Conference discussion for Safer Gambling Week and senior consultant Craig Cornforth contributing to the EGBA’s ‘Safer Gambling Messaging: Tailoring Communication for Maximum Impact’ broadcast on Friday;
- EPIC staff sharing their advice on how to mitigate against potential harm by sharing their first hand testimonies via a social media series delivered by our partners Entain.
We look forward to the heightened media and public interest in our everyday work thanks to Safer Gambling Week, providing a valuable opportunity for us to inform new audiences how our people provide the context and the stories that you don’t see behind the statistics on addiction. Rather than being a number in the statistics we see on problem gambling, they provide a humanised first-hand ‘how and why’ on the topic, to provide real-life examples of how this issue can affect people from all walks of life.
That insight is honed via our daily work to create impactful education, training and consultancy services to help global audiences understand how to avoid gambling’s more harmful effects, with the majority of our conversations held face-to-face, but with a growing digital presence as we l
