Bobby Scales brought in to bolster EPIC’s global audience
The latest high-profile acquisition to EPIC Global Solutions’ talented delivery team is former MLB player Bobby Scales, who joins the leaders in gambling harm prevention to bring awareness of problem gambling issues to top-level sports audiences across the US.
Joining the organisation as a sports advisor, Scales will use his extensive background in US sport to support the company’s lived experience-based education, advisory and consultancy services to the sports industry, liaising with partners to generate awareness of the issue and enhancing the quality of EPIC’s delivery materials.
In his playing career, he played with several organisations in the minor leagues before spending two seasons in the Major Leagues with the Chicago Cubs. Additionally, he finished his career with two seasons in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. Since his professional playing career, he has worked in a variety of player development, education and media roles, providing a rich skillset that aligns with the needs of his new position.
Scales will help to make EPIC’s services more accessible to leading sports stars, with the company holding contracts to deliver to teams across top competitions such as the MLB and NCAA, as well as working with player unions such as the MLSPA and NLFPA PAF to engage with their members at their clubs or via seminars.
Speaking about the new role that he’ll be undertaking alongside his existing commitments as an analyst for games on the Detroit Tigers Radio Network and a strategic advisor to the baseball industry, Scales explained:
“Gambling harm was something that has been an issue before, but now as it’s much more accessible to people in the United States, and with how big the with the gaming market has become, you’re seeing a lot of people affected.
“There are a few people that I know and trust who have been involved with EPIC, including Dr Meg Popovic [senior professional sports manager], and you know that if they’re involved, it’s solid, it’s on the up, and it’s something that I want to be part of.
“I have a passion for developing people and I think anytime that you have the opportunity to spread the word about worthy causes, I think that’s huge. I feel really good about being able to mix our content and my ability to connect to people and reach that segment of our demographic who can benefit from the good work that we’re doing.”
Patrick Chester, senior programme facilitator, believes that Scales is a very welcome addition to the EPIC team, at a time of considerable growth within the US market. He explained:
“We’re very pleased to announce Bobby Scales as the newest addition to our organisation, in what will be the first of several notable appointments to our US team in the coming months.
“The need for our services in the US has never been greater as exposure to legalised sports wagering and other forms of gambling continues to grow rapidly, so the expertise that Bobby will bring to EPIC will be of considerable benefit to all of our partners who engage with us for education, training and consultancy.
“His background in player development and public speaking is another welcome strength to our overall skillset within the company and will help to ensure that we serve the needs of the individuals who need to hear the important message that we share, seeking to mitigate the effects of gambling-related harm.”
