EPIC hire ex-professional footballer Marc Williams
EPIC Risk Management is delighted to announce that Marc Williams has joined the company as a Programme Facilitator.
Ex-professional footballer, Marc currently plays part-time for Llandudno Football Club. The Welsh forward has enjoyed the highs of playing for his country and in the Europa League, after developing through Wrexham’s youth system, the club at which he made his first-team debut in January 2006 at 17 years of age.
Sadly, Marc turned to gambling after a huge setback in his career and described gambling as his form of escape: “I found comfort being in that world and away from the pressures of the beautiful game!”
After a 12-year addiction, Marc sought help by the way of rehabilitation and is now three-years in recovery!
In the role of Programme Facilitator, Marc joins EPIC Risk Management’s lived experience team and will now share his story and experiences throughout schools and sports groups to help to raise awareness and educate young people on gambling harms and the associating dangers.
Marc strives to help the younger generation facing similar battles using his own story of addiction to educate and inspire.
Speaking of his new role at EPIC, Marc said:
“I’m extremely happy to be joining EPIC and to be a part of their mission, working to prevent gambling from harming both people and organisations.
“Every year, thousands of young aspiring footballers have their dream cut short or their journey pathway changes, and the truth is that many don’t have the coping mechanisms to deal with this at 15-18 year of age. They can turn to drugs, alcohol, gambling and subsequently struggle with mental health issues.
“We need to do more for the next generation and make sure they’re more equipped for the tough ride that trying to be a professional footballer brings. This is not just for footballers either! It’s for everyone and anyone trying to achieve their goals or reach the top in their profession.
“I’m looking forward to getting started.”
